5 ways to fight stress
1. Eat Stress Fighting Foods
Whole grains promote the production of the brain neurotransmitter serotonin, which increases your sense of well-being.
Green, yellow, and orange vegetables are all rich in minerals, vitamins, and phytochemicals, which boost immune response and protect against disease.
2. Avoid Stress-causing Foods
Coffee and other caffeinated beverages: If you are currently addicted to coffee, drink black tea; it has less than a third of the caffeine of coffee, and none of the harmful oils.
Fried foods and foods rich in fat are very immune-depressing, especially when stress is doing that, as well. High-protein foods elevate brain levels of dopamine and norepinephrine, both of which are associated with higher levels of anxiety and stress.
3. Take Stress-busting Vitamins
Vitamin C - Physical signs of stress including elevated levels of the stress hormone cortisol and high blood pressure were significantly lower in test subjects taking 1000mg of Vitamin C daily.
Vitamin E - The strongest anti-oxidant, it works with vitamin C and selenium to help strengthen the immune system.
Vitamin A - When depleted by stress, affects proper adrenal function and allows free radical damage to epithelial cells, including those lining blood vessels.
Vitamin B - Complex - Aids in the function of the central nervous system, which is in a high state of arousal during periods of stress.
4. Supplement Diet with Stress-busting Minerals
Calcium - Stress is also associated with a depletion of calcium and the inability of the bones to absorb calcium properly.
Magnesium - Depletion through stress creates anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, muscle fatigue
Potassium - Especially needed during stress because it promotes adrenal gland function and also interacts with sodium to regulate the body's fluid balance and can help lower blood pressure
Zinc - Involved in the production of more than 200 body enzymes. Boosts immune function and is depleted during stressful situations.
5. Stress-busting Beverage
When one cannot eat properly, whether due to loss of appetite or a hectic schedule, Ingoldsby says a stress busting beverage can be made by mixing the multi-nutrient powder ALL-ONE with juice.
